About The NMI Foundation The mission of the Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation is to further the Northeast Maritime Institute's creed of "Honoring the Mariner." Through scholarship and support, the foundation seeks to not only provide scholarships for students, but to further their professional education, training and certification needs for advancement in the maritime industry. Through both charitable and educational purposes, the foundation will turn those students of today into the mariners of tomorrow. The ocean is like no other, it is magical and holds a special place, I think, inside all of us. Being able to serve the needs of those seeking a career in the maritime industry is an absolute blessing. I have seen what the sea can do for those who are invested in it. My great-grandfather sailed on Clipper Ships around Cape Horn, my grandfather was the Chief Engineer for the Steamship Authority, and my father served in both the United States Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine aboard LNG tankers. In the words of Jimmy Buffet: "The seas in my veins, my tradition remains." A tall ship sailor myself, I have the utmost passion for all things maritime. From a young age I was thrown into it all, receiving my Safe Boating certificate at the age of 10. At 12, driving film crews around Buzzards Bay to film One: Sailing Towards a Horizon of Hope. From the age of 14 to present I have worked aboard S/V Fritha, the flagship for the Northeast Maritime Institute. On S/V Fritha I have had the pleasure of participating in the Fairhaven Project, a conflict resolution project with Israeli and Palestinian students, as well as Tall Ships Portland 2015. It is with great pleasure that I am able to represent the Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation in order to better serve mariners and future mariners. Through scholarship and support, this foundation creates opportunities for those in need, and for those who deserve a helping hand. Together, we can all foster a new generation of sailors. A generation that is financially successful, highly educated, and that creates an even safer maritime environment than the generation before.
