Heather Correia - Chairperson


Heather A. Correia serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Northeast Maritime Institute’s – College of Maritime Science.  An instrumental force in developing the nation's first private maritime college, she led the effort for Northeast Maritime Institute’s application to become an institution of higher learning and interface with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Board of Higher Education during the process. She currently oversees the Institute’s ongoing operations and develops and implements procedures. As the Institute’s second-in-command she is responsible for the efficiency of operations and human resources development and oversight as it pertains to mission and vision.


Ms. Correia worked side by side with the Institute President to file the application for degree granting status with the Department of Higher Education and successfully realized approvals in October of 2014. According to NMI President, Eric R. Dawicki, "Ms. Correia is the rock that holds the foundation of NMI together! Without her dotting the i's and crossing the t's, our success would be much less realized."


 She attended Bristol Community College, majoring in Elementary Education and was Northeast Maritime Institute – College of Maritime Science first recipient of an Honorary Associate of Arts Degree in Educational Service.  She is certified in Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy and worked in the Fairhaven Public School for over a decade, she managed to serve the school system with impeccable grace and work ethic in this very specialized area.


Starting her career at NMI as the Executive Assistant and then Director of the Office of the President, she was nominated as the Chief Operating Officer and a member of NMI’s Board of Trustees unanimously by the Board in June of 2016.  She also serves as a volunteer Chairperson of the Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation Board of Trustees
