Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation signs MOU with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand

The Northeast Maritime Institute Foundation announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand.

In response to the 14 January 2022 volcanic eruption from Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano which occurred near the island of Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga, the NMI Foundation established the ‘Tonga Relief Fund’ to aid the people of Tonga.

The MOU between the Foundation and Habitat for Humanity will allow the funds from the Tonga Relief Fund to go directly towards the rebuilding and strengthening of homes in Tonga. These efforts will provide long-term benefits for the people of Tonga and create more resilience in the face of storms and other events.

Both the Foundation and Habitat for Humanity have long-standing relationships with Tonga, making this a great cooperative opportunity to give back to the people of Tonga.

“We are truly grateful for the work that Habitat for Humanity does, and for their previous projects in the Kingdom of Tonga. This opportunity to further promote their initiatives and put the Tonga Relief Funds to good use is an exciting moment for the Foundation,” says Chairwoman Hannah E. Dawicki.
